CCSA’s National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW) highlights issues and solutions to help address alcohol- and other drug-related harm. It provides an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about prevention, to talk about treatment and recovery, and to bring forward solutions for change.
This year NAAW is from November 25 to December 1. It will happen in conjunction with CCSA’s Issues of Substance conference taking place in Ottawa from November 25–27.
The Impact of Stigma
Stigma is a significant barrier to wellness and good health for people who use substances.
This years’ theme for National Addictions Awareness Week is Stigma Ends with Me. With your help, we want to increase understanding of the devastating stigma associated with substance use and addiction and its impact on the well-being of people touched by this health issue.
Leading up to NAAW, CCSA will be releasing a suite of resources to help reduce stigma. These resources will support people who want to facilitate conversations and increase awareness of the stigma surrounding people who use substances, their support networks and service providers.
Ending stigma and breaking down barriers to recovery and wellness or good health is extremely important. Together with partners like the Community Addictions Peer Support Association and you, we are taking the conversation about stigma nationwide.
Spread the Message
Using the hashtag #StigmaEndsWithMe, please share on Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms photos of your local NAAW events showing how you are trying to end stigma within your community.
Tell Us What You‘re Doing for NAAW
We also encourage you to let us know before NAAW what you will be doing that week to show your support. Please share your plans, photos and social media information at email@example.com. During the week of NAAW, CCSA will recognize the efforts of many of our partners who are helping make a difference.
CCSA truly appreciates your efforts to promote National Addictions Awareness Week 2019. Thank you!
